Buenafe wants monthly allowance to continue

CEBU, Philippines -  The Cebu City Police Office is requesting the city government to continue granting monthly allowance to police personnel who are undergoing schooling and those who are about to take the training.

In a letter to Mayor Michael Rama, CCPO director Melvin Ramon Buenafe appealed to the City Hall not to cancel the allowance because the policemen need the allowance to defray the expenses they will incur.

“This is the most crucial time wherein they needed the money most due to the many expenses that these personnel will incur like food, projects and also the venue – as they are on off-campus status, now that the Regional Training School is being demolished,” Buenafe said.

Police personnel need to undergo a higher level of training to elevate their rank.

Schooling is usually for those who did not undergo four years of training in college. It is a mandatory requirement for promotion.

Buenafe said they received a verbal communication from the Cebu City Budget Office in May that personnel who will undergo schooling will temporarily be stripped off of their monthly allowance.

All personnel of CCPO receive P2,000 monthly allowance from the city government. The assistance used to be P1,000 until Rama increased it to P2,000 last year.

There are some 23 Police Non-Commission Officers currently undergoing Public Safety Junior Leadership Course at the Camp Sergio Osmeña. The training started last month.

Another 11 officers are set to undergo the PSJLC soon. — (FREEMAN)
