Four workers electrocuted; two dead

CEBU, Philippines - Two people died and two others were injured after they were electrocuted while repairing a deep well in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Thursday afternoon.

Lapu-Lapu Police identified the two fatalities as Ricardo Senarlo, 35 and Maximo Talara, 40, both residents of Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

The two others who were confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center were identified as Mark Anthony Pagador, 21, and Eliezer Jubay, a security guard of Sea Lion Security Agency.

Both Pagador and Jubay sustained burns in different parts of their bodies.

Initial investigation conducted by PO2 Carlos Barluado of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Crime Against Persons Desk revealed that the victims were hired to repair the deep well in the place. They started the repair at around 4 P.M. The incident happened at 4:45 P.M.

Witnesses told police that the victims were pulling up pipes from the deep well when suddenly the pipe cracked and its tip hit a high voltage line of the Mactan Electric Company.

The incident caused panic among the residents in Barangay Basak.

Senarlo was brought by the witnesses to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where attending physician Dr. Bolivar Minosa declared him dead on arrival.

Talara was brought to the Mactan Doctors Hospital, where attending physician Dr. Paul Villegas also declared him dead on arrival.

Pagador and Jubay were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Police investigators are set to invite witnesses to shed light on the incident.

They will also look into the high voltage wire in the area which is owned by Meco.  (FREEMAN)
