CEBU, Philippines - Four barangay workers in Apas and Bacayan were found positive of using shabu during a surprise drug test conducted by the City Office for Substance Abuse and Prevention (COSAP) and the PNP Crime Laboratory.
Two of those tested positive were clean and green workers from the two barangays, a subpoena server of Bacayan and an auxiliary member of the task force in Apas.
COSAP chief Joey Herrera said the surprise drug test in Bacayan was conducted Sunday while yesterday afternoon in Apas.
“It’s up to the barangay captain to initiate whether to terminate them from service. Dili man sab maayo nga dunay tiggamitan og drugas unya naa gihapon sa baranggay,” Herrera said.
Herrera urged the barangay officials to initiate surprise drug test in their respective barangay.
“Ang buhaton ra gyud sa mga barangay captains mao ang pag-request sa office ni councilor Pe ug sa COSAP para maka-conduct ta og surprise drug test,” Herrera said.
This year, according to Herrera, only five barangays have asked for their assistance to conduct surprise drug test. These are Barangays Basak San Nicolas, Luz, Bacayan, Tejero and Apas.
Eight barangay employees were earlier found positive in Basak San Nicolas, one in Bario Luz and two in Tejero.
Herrera said the test results will be subjected to a confirmatory test by the PNP Crime Laboratory. The results will be available one week from now. - (THE FREEMAN)
