CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas R. Osmeña is unfazed by the possibility of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia running in the city in 2013 midterm elections.
Osmeña even encouraged Garcia to run in any elective position in the city. Political pundits observed that the governor’s helping the city residents could be a start of her political plan for Cebu City as she is already in her last term.
“No problem. She can run for any positions in the city that she wants,” Osmeña told The FREEMAN.
Garcia has been very visible in Cebu City, in fact, she has been giving assistance to the fire victims in Tejero, Mambaling and Punta Princesa.
Garcia distributed one sack of rice, canned goods and noodles to each of the fire victims even if the city is no longer part of her political territory.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said this is the benefit that the people would get if political leaders are not quarrelling.
“Kon walay away daghan ang maghatagay, kon daghan ang maghinatagay, daghan ang mangalipay,” Rama said.
Garcia, who lives in Sun Valley Subdivision in Barangay Calamba, is also being considered for national positions. In fact, she has been paired already with Senator Ramon Revilla, Jr. who is seen to be a presidential contender in 2016.
However, should Garcia opt to run in Cebu City she may have to face Osmeña who is also expected to make a City Hall come back following his fallout with Rama.
Although Osmeña refused to confirm that he is running for mayor 2013. (FREEMAN)
