Speeding motorcycle hits man

CEBU, Philippines - A man was severely injured after he was hit by a speeding motorcycle on the national highway of barangay Poblacion, Alcantara last Tuesday morning.

Police said that 44-year-old Rey Cabalog of barangay Polo was rushed to the Barili District Hospital due to serious injuries in his head and body.

Now detained in the Alcantara Police Station is Alvin Osabel, 19, of barangay Candabong and driver of the motorcycle.

The Zongshin motorcycle with plate number 4414 GM driven by Osabel was traveling from barangay Polo and was bound for barangay Poblacion when the accident happened.

Police said Cabalog did not notice the coming motorcycle and suddenly crossed the street to go to the public market on the opposite side of the road.

Cabalog was hit and slumped on the ground. Bystanders called for police assistance.

Osabel voluntarily surrendered to the police. He said he tried to apply the brakes but this was not enough to stop the motorcycle from hitting Cabalog.

Appropriate charges will be filed against Osabel. The police learned that he was driving without license and that the registration of his motorcycle has expired.

But the police said both parties plan to settle the case amicably as the family of Osabel assured to shoulder all the medical expenses of Cabalog. (FREEMAN)
