Sanchez's campaign manager admits pledges of support not enough to win

CEBU, Philippines - Despite the pledges of support of many barangay captains in the South District for Barangay Busay Captain Eleudoro Sanchez to become the next president of the Association of Barangay Councils of Cebu City, his campaign manager Barangay Basak-San Nicolas Captain George Rama admitted that they could not be assured that all those who pledged support will stick with them until the election day.

Rama, cousin of Mayor Michael Rama, said some barangay captains may be swayed to support another candidate especially if they are offered money.

Rama confirmed that many of the 34 barangay captains in the south have pledged support for Sanchez.

“Pagka karon daghan g’yud, dili g’yud hinoon tanan, nga mipadayag og suporta ngadto ni Yody pero dili ko makapaniguro nga dili sila mausab kon tunolan og kwarta aron adto modapig sa kaatbang,” barangay captain Rama said.

Sanchez, who is on his third term as barangay captain, will be running against two other Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan allies, Capitol Site Barangay Captain Manuel Guanzon and Michael Ralota of T. Padilla.

Rama believes that if South District Rep. Tomas Osmeña and his cousin will not interfere in the ABC election on December 7, he is confident that Sanchez would win.

“Daghang mga kapitan sa bukid gusto na g’yud og kausaban nga dunay morepresentar kanila sa konseho kay dugay na kaayong katuigan nga ang ABC president taga dinhi sa patag,” Rama added.

Rama said he does not like Guanzon and Ralota to head the ABC because of apprehensions that they will use their position later on being an architect and a contractor, respectively.

According to Rama, it is possible that they will be taking advantage to get projects for their personal interest.

One of the duties of the ABC president is to represent the barangay officials in the Cebu City Council as he will sit as ex-officio member of the council. (FREEMAN)
