CEBU, Philippines – A reported police asset was shot to death by two motorcycle-riding men last Thursday night while he was tending to his barbeque business in Barangay Duljo-Fatima.
Rolly Claro Policarpio, 37, died of two gunshot wounds to his chest. He was reportedly the one informing authorities of illegal drug activities in the barangay.
Investigation showed that Policarpio was tending to his business along B. Aranas Extension around 8pm when two men on board a motorcycle arrived and stopped in front of him.
The man riding in pillion disembarked from the motorcycle, pulled out a gun, and without a word shot Policarpio twice on the chest.
The assailants then sped off towards Carlock Street as Policarpio slumped to the ground. The motorcycle reportedly did not bear any plate number.
A stray bullet also grazed the left arm and left torso of Genard Sarmiento, 19, a college student, who was passing by the area.
Both Policarpio and Sarmiento were taken to the Cebu City Medical Center, but the former was declared dead on arrival. Sarmiento received treatment and was later allowed to leave the hospital.
Police recovered two empty shells of a caliber .45 pistol and a deformed slug of an undetermined caliber from the crime scene. The items are now in the custody of the Crime Scene Investigation Unit. (FREEMAN)
