CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes is satisfied with the way Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac is handling the peace and order situation in the city.
In a talk with reporters during his regular weekly forum, Mayor Cortes said Gillamac had solved a number of sensational crimes, including the killing of a taxi driver.
However, Cortes said he will oppose any changes in the leadership in the Mandaue City Police.
However, Cortes said there is no word that indicates that Gillamac will soon be replaced.
"Maghulat lang ta kon unsay ipadala sa atong kapolisan," said Cortes.
The mayor said he and Gillamac have agreed to tap the services of barangay tanods in the fight against crime, the police being short of personnel.
Cortes said he would inquire from the Commission on Audit if the city government could give tanods additional allowance on top of their regular allowance or honorarium to be effective. (THE FREEMAN)
