CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board approved in mass motion a resolution that urged the Commission on Elections to immediately resolve the political standoff in Compostela.
The resolution was filed by Board Members Thadeo Ouano, Sergio Restauro and Alfred Francis Ouano, president of the Cebu Federation of Philippine Councilors League.
Board Member Agnes Magpale, who represents the fifth district that includes Compostela, manifested that the Comelec must act on the issue fast because it has started to affect the delivery of basic services.
Magpale cited the order signed by Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer of the Comelec Second Division, which suspended the proclamation of Mayor Joel Quiño, his vice mayor Nenet Dangoy and eight members of the municipal council.
Magpale said that an immediate resolution would also allow the real winner in the May 10 polls to serve the people.
The Comelec En Banc is scheduled to hear today the motion for reconsideration filed by Quiño.
Board Member Jude Thaddeus Durano who also represents the fifth district, himself supported the resolution.
Durano believes that DILG-7 Regional Director Pedro Noval, the acting mayor, cannot accommodate the problems being faced by Compostela. Like Magpale, Durano said the Comelec must resolve the problem in Compostela as soon as possible.
In a separate interview with The FREEMAN, Noval said he is now introducing austerity measures to minimize the problems involving power consumption.
It was learned that CEBECO threatened to cut off the power service to Compostela because of the unpaid power consumption reaching up to P1 million. (FREEMAN NEWS)
