CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot and killed after his pistol went off while he and an on-duty security guard were grappling for it in sitio Moag, Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City, last Sunday evening.
Investigation conducted by the responding policemen revealed that Filemino Villarmia was earlier seen pulling out a .45 cal. pistol and shooting at someone who was not identified.
The said incident was witnessed by Dennis Pacilan, a licensed security guard assigned to one of the banks in Guadalupe and also a Barangay Intelligence Network member.
Pacilan approached Villarmia and tried to pacify him, but the victim allegedly shot at the guard but missed. Pacilan then grabbed for the gun and the two struggled until the gun went off, hitting Villarmia in the body.
Villarmia was killed instantly and Pacilan voluntarily surrendered himself to the Carcar City Police Station.
Responding policemen recovered a gun and two spent .45 cal. shells at the scene of the crime.
Earlier that day, a man was arrested at Mancao Village, Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, for illegal possession of firearms.
Rene Mangubat failed to present any documents for the .45 cal. pistol he was carrying.
Mangubat is presently detained at Carcar City Police Station pending filing of appropriate charges against him. (FREEMAN NEWS)
