CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday defended the road asphalting project of the provincial government from allegations hurled by Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. that it is substandard.
Garcia said the road asphalting project of the provincial government has complied with all the procedures set by the Commission on Audit.
According to Garcia, when a portion of the road is washed out it does not necessarily mean that public funds are wasted because the contractor is obliged to repair it.
“Ang problema man gud usahay sa atong bise gobernador, dili kaayo siya musuroy-suroy mao nga dili gayud siya makakita sa tanan nga proyekto sa probinsya,” Garcia said.
Garcia cited the problems of the Panugnawan-Curva road in Medellin town wherein a portion of the road was washed out by the typhoon Frank. She said that the road is now being repaired by the contractor free of charge.
“Nahitabo ani karon murag iyang gikaminus ang taga COA nga wala maghimo sa ilang trabaho,” said Garcia.
Sanchez earlier urged the Commission on Audit and the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas to look into the alleged substandard asphalting project of the provincial roads in the different municipalities.
Sanchez presented pictures of alleged substandard asphalting projects in Barangay Sangi, San Fernando and Guimbawian and Lut-od in Pinamungajan town.
Sanchez said that another section of the provincial road in Barangay Mantalungon, Dalaguete was also found to be substandard. (FREEMAN NEWS)
