CEBU, Philippines - The western town of Tuburan was stirred yesterday when fake money was discovered circulating in the town.
Tuburan officials and police have alerted stores in the town after at least three sari-sari stores discovered they have been paid with fake P1000 bills.
Mayor Constancio Suezo said he already directed the town police to look into the matter and identify the source of the fake bills. Suezo said the store owners were made to execute affidavits.
He admitted there is a “big possibility” that the fake money would be used this coming elections, but said he would wait for the result of the investigation before taking concrete actions.
The police also echoed the request to residents of the town. Police suspect the suspects are targeting sari-sari stores. — THE FREEMAN
