CEBU, Philippines - Nagkahiusang Mandauehanon’s mayoralty candidate sixth district Rep. Nerissa Soon Ruiz will lead today the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion/widening of the Tipolo Bridge (near San Miguel Corporation) in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.
Tipolo Barangay Councilor Cecille Semense said his barangay is grateful to Congresswoman Ruiz for the realization of the project , which is expected to solve the traffic problem in the area.
The project, initiated by Ruiz, cost the national government P18million.
From its current 7-meter wide, the Tipolo bridge shall have a 4.7-meter additional width including the sidewalk or a total of 11.7-meter wide when finished.
The bridge which has a span of 21 meters has been a bottle neck of the traffic because the roads connecting to it on both ends are much wider than the bridge.
Construction shall be done by the winning bidder -- BNR Construction and Development Corporation -- under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
DPWH had already arranged with the TEAM for the traffic rerouting scheme hence the bridge shall be closed for the duration of the construction that will last for about six months.
Vehicles from the north are expected to use the adjacent road built sometime in the mid-90s when the Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf road was widened.
