RAFI eyes carbon footprint reduction through challenge

CEBU, Philippines - To conserve and reduce the consumption of energy, water and even to the extent of paper use, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated launched its Aboitiz Race to Reduce Challenge last Monday at the RAFI Office in Lopez Jaena Street, Cebu City.

It is a contest among the Aboitiz corporate centers of any of their business groups all over the country with their common campaign aimed at reducing carbon footprint within the group of companies.

Corporate centers are the main or central offices of the different business clusters in Aboitiz.

A ceremonial commitment signing led by RAFI president and chief executive officer Roberto Aboitiz, vice president Jon Ramon Aboitiz, executive committee chairperson Ma. Christina Aboitiz, and chief operating officer Dominica Chua, was also done during the launch to emphasize their participation in the challenge.

Being highly aware of the increasing environmental problems brought about by global warming, RAFI is fully driven by this program to help save an ailing Earth by initiating a move that starts “at the core” of an organization.

Ruth Rowena Alensonorin of RAFI said that for the past years, the Aboitiz Group of Companies has been consistently demonstrating sensitivity to Mother Earth, yet, there were lesser efforts channeled as regards to the documentation on how much energy and resources were saved. However, this year, with the launching of the contest, Alensonorin is confident that the goal is 90 percent achievable.

The documentation will start with copies of the monthly electric and water bills and the number of bond paper reams used in a month.
