Public called on to observe women's month

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development urges the public to observe the Women’s Month Celebration this month set to highlight the achievements of women in paving the way for their advancement and empowerment amid major challenges.

The celebration this year focuses on the importance of empowerment of women and the promotion of unity, solidarity and stability among different women groups.

It also aims to promote entrepreneurship among women and create public awareness on the newly enacted Magna Carta of Women, the comprehensive law on women’s human rights

With the theme, “Babae, Tagumpay ka ng Bayan,” DSWD-7 has prepared series of activities for the month-long celebration.

Suggested activities include the organization or reactivation of the Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere (MOVE), radio and television guestings of leaders of women’s organizations and other known personalities in the field, forums on the Magna Carta of Women and Women’s Congress.

There will also be series of forums that would tackle the Solo Parent’s Act, Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and violations against women and children among many other laws promoting the welfare and protection of women.

Partner government agencies, local government units, private sectors and the civil society groups are enjoined to conduct the suggested activities for women in their respective community. — /MEEV
