CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday dismissed a member of the City Traffic Operations Management who reportedly did not issue a ticket for a motorcycle he ordered to be towed.
CITOM executive director Arnel Tancinco said Osmeña has sacked Jude Silva after he reportedly ordered a motorcycle to be towed without issuance of a violation ticket.
“Naay complaint nga gipaalsa niya ang motor bisan og wala pa mahuman og issue (og ticket) ba. Gi-reprimand namo pero gi-terminate man ni mayor. Pabuhatan g’yud to namo og termination order,” Tancinco said.
Tancinco said that the concern of the complainant reached Osmeña but stressed that he was surprised by the mayor’s decision.
He added that other than Silva, 30 more CITOM enforcers are also facing termination for various infractions.
One report reaching Tancinco’s office is that some traffic enforcers are not doing their job well such as being negligent and abandoning their posts.
In line with this, Tancinco said they are waiting for the mayor’s approval to hire new CITOM enforcers.
The traffic management body needs at least 30 new recruits to replace the terminated enforcers.
There are around 364 CITOM personnel deployed in different streets of the city. — Elly Bolonos and Jasmin Uy/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
