Two fishers hunted for firing guns

CEBU, Philippines - Two fishermen are now at large after their neighbors complained that they fired their respective guns last Saturday night at a shore in Sitio Tunga, Barangay Zaragosa, Badian town.

Investigation showed that barangay captain Roque Belarmino called up the police station after residents brought up the matter to him.

SPO1 Vincent Aguanta together with the barangay tanods responded to the place but the suspects were allegedly able to board their pump boat and fled towards Negros Oriental.

Responding authorities were able to recover two .38 caliber revolvers from the area, one of which still contained a bullet, believed to be left by the suspects while trying to escape arrest.

Further investigation conducted in the neighborhood led to the identification of the suspects as Romie Deniega, Sr., 48, and Gilbert Valparaiso, 38, both residents of the place.

The police could not yet determine the motive of the shooting but they are now preparing the appropriate charges to be filed against the suspects. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
