CPPO chief reiterates proper police uniform in conduct of checkpoints

-

CEBU, Philippines - After Senior Supt. Jesus Gaquing formally assumed his post as new director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, he reminds all chiefs of police in the province to focus on discipline in the conduct of checkpoints and ensure police visibility in the poblacions.

This after he learned that there are members of the police force who refuse to carry out checkpoints and that some of those assigned in checkpoints wear dark jackets on top of their uniforms.

Gaquing reminded law enforcers to respect and find dignity in the wearing of prescribed uniforms so that they will be properly identified by the public they are serving, most especially by motorists.

Many motorists reportedly mistake police officers wearing dark jackets and flagging them sans checkpoint signage as lawless elements. So that instead of heeding, motorists would turn back in an attempt to flee the area which eventually leads to a chase.

“We have to give justice to [the efforts of] our fellow policemen who are deployed in critical zones,” Gaquing said. He was referring to the 81 members of the Regional Mobile Group who were earlier deployed in Sulu to augment military forces there fighting against bandits, insurgents, and Muslim extremist groups. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
