Teodoro not sure how poll automation works

CEBU, Philippines – Presidential aspirant Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro, who is hoping to be the standard bearer of the administration, does not know how the poll automation works.

“I really don’t know how its works. Everybody is just relying as to the reliability of that new system,” Teodoro said in a press conference following the opening of the 7th Philippine Councilor’s League Visayas Island Congress held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino yesterday morning.

Teodoro believed an election should be held in 2010 not just because that is mandated by the Constitution.

“An election is a necessity. Because people want change and new leadership. The people are really expecting an election,” said Teodoro, a Bar topnotcher.

The Department of National Defense secretary added that he is ready to run for president and that he has the ability to work with anyone, which is an edge against other presidential aspirants.

When asked how rich he is to run for president, he said: “One thing for sure, I am not going to spend my own money and I will not spend my parents’ lifetime savings.”

Teodoro is the son of former Social Security System administrator Gilberto Teodoro Sr. and Mercedes Cojuangco.

Teodoro said a way to address the economic problem and lingering poverty in the country is to empower various regions and give greater autonomy to the already strong cities like Cebu and Davao.

“In turn, they become the center of economic activities and growth in outlying areas,” he said. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
