UC mech'l eng'g board 1st placer gets new car

CEBU, Philippines - Graduates of the University of Cebu who topped the 2009 Mechanical Engineering Board Examinations got their incentives yesterday from lawyer Augusto Go, president of UC.

Joseph Mayormita, the first placer on a nationwide level, was awarded a brand new car; while Iron Plando who landed on second spot was given P100,000. Fourth placer Jacinto Fajardo, Jr. received P50,000. Two of their professors each received P100,000 from Go.

“I think that this incentive program is doing really well because students strive hard to be topnotchers,” Go said.

Mayormita is a consistent honor student despite dabbling with his duties at the Information Technology Department of UC during his college days.

The three credited their professors for their recent achievement and thanked them for the “efficient training” the two had provided them.

It was learned that they were sent to various regional and national competitions to prepare them holistically for the board exams.

Thirty-eight from UC took the exam, 53 percent of them passed. However, only three of the 19 so-called repeaters had finally made it. The school marked an overall performance of 43 percent. —  Ana Coritha Desamparado/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
