DDB to hold seminar on illegal drugs

CEBU, Philippines - Dangerous Drugs Board Secretary Vicente Sotto III is set to be the guest speaker of a seminar on alternative development programs in Balamban town tomorrow.

He will tackle the government’s efforts and campaign against illegal drugs, the health implications of drug abuse and penalties one may face if he or she will not abide by the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 .

Balamban town already received a P2.3 million grant from DDB which was received by Balamban Mayor Alex Binghay so farmers cultivating marijuana can have other means of income.

Some farmers still cultivate marijuana despite police raids on their plantations because they do not have other means of earning a living.

On April 21, Sotto will also be the keynote speaker for a seminar-workshop for judges, prosecutors and law enforcers from Regions 6, 7 and 8. 

The three-day seminar workshop aims to update participants on drug-related laws, enhance their knowledge in handling drug evidence and to also provide them the venue to discuss the problems that they face in drug cases and to discuss solutions to them. — Crischellyn D.
