Man faces charges for illegal drugs, malicious mischief

CEBU, Philippines - A 52- year-old man who destroyed a cock teepee of Day-as barangay captain Elery Cañada has been charged with possession of illegal drugs before the Regional Trial Court yesterday.

Eliseo Genson, a resident of the barangay, has been charged with Violation of Section 11 of the Dangerous Drugs Act after he was found in his possession two packs of suspected shabu in a body search during his arrest last February 18.

Genson was arrested by police when he reportedly destroyed the cock teepee of Cañada on that date.

During a body search after his arrest, Genson was found to have in his possession illegal drugs placed inside a match.

Second Assistant City prosecutor Liceria Rabillas, in a resolution, said that Genson is facing a charge for malicious mischief on top of a case for violation of Dangerous Drugs Act that was filed against him.

Rabillas said that the suspect was given 10 days to file a counter-affidavit to refute the accusations but he failed to do so.

The charges were elevated to court yesterday and the prosecutor recommended a P200,000 bail for Genson’s temporary freedom. — Jasmin R. Uy/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
