Cebu - Newly appointed Press Secretary Cerge Remonde yesterday admitted that he had earlier asked for a sign from Señor Santo Niño whether he would accept his new post or not.
In an interview over dySS yesterday, the Cebuano Cabinet official said that was among the reasons why he went home to Cebu recently.
Aside from celebrating the Sinulog, he added that he also asked for a sign from the Holy Child to guide him in his decision.
Now that he has accepted the position, which has been offered to him several times, Remonde said he would do his best to embrace with grave responsibility the new task that was assigned to him.
The revamp, which will take effect on February 1, was announced by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and out-going Press Secretary Jesus Dureza during a press conference at the Malacañang the other day. Dureza will take over the post vacated by Sergio Apostol Jr. as the Presidential Legal Counsel.
As a Press Secretary who provides advice on how to deal with the news media using news management technique, Remonde said in behalf of the President, he would answer all questions thrown by the media to him.
Remonde, who is currently the director general of the Presidential Management Staff, will be replaced by retired military chief Hermogenes Esperon Jr., who holds the position as the presidential adviser on the peace process.
A Cebuano who hails from Argao, Cebu, Remonde is the 15th head of the Presidential Management Staff.
Presidential Spokesperson Dr. Anthony Golez and Deputy Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo are not affected by the revamp. — Johanna Natavio/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
