Girl stabbed dead in Ronda town

CEBU - A 13-year-old girl was killed by a jobless man while the victim was fetching water from a natural spring in the hinterlands of Ronda town, while a fisherman in Daanbantayan also died when the dynamite he was about to throw exploded in his hand.

In Ronda town, Mary Grace Aranas, died of multiple stab wounds after being allegedly attacked by Raul Davis, 35, of sitio Madanlog, barangay Vive, Ronda, with a sharpened bamboo stake.

According to a report passed on to the Cebu Provincial Police Office, Davis was quickly arrested immediately after he killed the girl and he is presently detained at the town’s detention cell pending the filing of charges against him.

Although the police did not state the motive of the killing in its report, one of the policemen in Ronda police station said that the suspect may have tried to rape the child, but since the child fought back, the suspect took a bamboo stake and stabbed her until she died.

In Daanbantayan, 34-year-old Noel Olidon was killed after dynamite he was using for illegal fishing exploded in his hand.

It was reported that Olidon noticed a school of fish off barangay Maya, Daanbantayan, and readied a stick of dynamite. But before he could throw it, it exploded in his hand killing him instantly. 

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old caretaker of a building construction site in barangay Tomonoy, Moalboal town, was stabbed dead by a former co-worker who allegedly got mad at him after he was terminated from his job. Hilario Dionaldo of barangay Basdiot, Moalboal, was asleep inside the construction site when he was allegedly attacked by Jupiter Gabales, 18.

Gabales fled after the killing of the victim but was arrested in barangay Agbalanga, Moalboal. His father is also being held for questioning by the police to determine his possible involvement in the crime. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
