Task Force Motorcycle nets "notorious robber"

CEBU - The newly created Task Force Motorcycle yesterday arrested 39-year-old Edison “Bobit” delos Santos who is referred to by the police as a notorious robber.

Delos Santos, who is facing a complaint for allegedly robbing passengers in a jeepney the other day, was accosted by members of the task force after being spotted along M. J. Cuenco Avenue in barangay Tejero around 9 a.m. yesterday.

Task force member SPO1 Adonis Dumpit said they also seized a .22 black widow revolver, 12 rounds of ammunition and two marijuana sticks from the suspect. Delos Santos allegedly tried to resist arrest.

It was only two months ago that Delos Santos left the Cebu City Jail after being jailed for over four years for frustrated homicide for shooting SPO3 Danilo Fabian and a companion in 2004. He was also cleared of drug charges in May last year.

Dumpit said Delos Santos had also attempted to burn some houses in barangay Tejero but was fortunate enough to escape after missing a shot from Dumpit himself.

In an exclusive interview, Delos Santos vehemently denied the allegations and instead accused the police of planting the evidences against him. He said he was not carrying the items allegedly seized from him, as he is already undergoing “life renewal.”

Delos Santos’ arrest was the second accomplishment of the task force since its creation last week. It also arrested two thieves last Sunday in Pit-os, Talamban.

The task force was created to curb the rising incidents of motorcycle-related crimes in the region. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
