Caretaker shot dead by 2 men

CEBU - A man who worked as caretaker of a retired member of the Philippine Air Force was shot dead by two unidentified men around 7:30 a.m. yesterday along Lapu-Lapu Street, San Antonio Village, barangay Apas, Cebu City.

Police said that the victim, Michael Saladaga, 31, of sitio Dagohoy, Apas, was taking his son to school on a mountain bike when he was overtaken by two men on a blue Honda Wave motorcycle and the man riding pillion shot him in the right side of his chest.

The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation rushed him to the hospital but he failed to make it there alive.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the killing is related to the incident involving the victim’s employer, retired PAF sergeant Nestor Bugarin, who is accused of killing his father and brother-in-law last May 30.

Cebu City Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador said the strongest angle into the killing has to do with the Bugarin case. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
