Woman, son sued for arson

Angered after her children were admonished for messing with the plants of her neighbor, a mother, reportedly in connivance with her son, allegedly burned the house of that neighbor in Tampaan, Aloguinsan town.

But while the incident happened June last year, house owner Celestina Pagar filed the complaint for arson before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against Leonila Niere and her son Noel only yesterday.

Pagar alleged that their neighbors saw Leonila and Noel as the ones who razed her house using a torch. A witness, Mario Abais, reportedly tried to talk to the suspects but was told not to intervene.

Fire investigator Alex Montejo said the house was already burnt to ashes when he arrived.

He said there is a big possibility that the complaint for arson would prosper because the house did not have electricity that might caused the fire. — Jasmin R. Uy/JMO
