Colon night market wraps up tomorrow

-

The Colon Shopping Festival and Night Market will end tomorrow, finally allowing motorists to again use the stretch of Colon Street from Osmeña Blvd. to Junquera St. after 5 p.m.

“Salamat intawon kay pwerteng hasola g’yod nga magtuyok-tuyok mi’g agi tungod sa pagsirado sa karsada nga mao g’yod unta ang among agianan,” said Fermin Calleja, a driver of a passenger jeepney plying the Urgello-Colon-Port area route.

Because of the holding of the shopping festival and night market, public utility jeepneys going to port area are required to turn right upon reaching Osmeña Boulevard, make their way to D. Jakosalem Street, then turn right again to Colon St. and proceed to their destination.

“Mao pay mahal kaayo ang gasolina karon mosamot mi og kaalkanse kay motaas man ang among rota nga agian unya mao ra ang plete,” another PUJ driver said.

Some observers also said the holding of the so-called shopping festival and night market is not worth the sacrifices of the motorists because the products sold there are only ordinary plastics and clothing.

The event, which is part of the celebration of the Cebu Business Month, started last July 10.

Some traffic enforcers suggested that city officials should evaluate if a similar project should be held again next year because it gives them more hassles. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP
