Two people were killed while three others were severely wounded in five shooting incidents happening in different parts of Cebu City and province the other day.
The first incident took place in barangay Buanoy, Balamban town where a man was shot to death by an unidentified assailant. He sustained a fatal wound at the back of his head.
Marcial Honculada was last seen standing outside a lotto outlet before an unidentified man shot him.
PO2 Rolando Navarro of the Balamban Police Station, in an interview with The FREEMAN, disclosed that the police are still looking into the identity of the suspect and the motive of the killing.
“Among gisubay nga anggulo ‘ron ang trabaho sa biktima ug sa mga posible niya nga mga kontra,” Navarro said.
The other fatality was seen sprawled on a pool of blood in the middle of Benedicto Street, barangay Tejero in Cebu City. The unidentified person was reportedly shot at around 2 a.m., according to a security guard at the nearby Chinese temple.
The security guard narrated that he first heard a burst of gunfire, prompting him to check and see the bloodied victim sprawled on the middle of the road.
Responding personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation took the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
In Consolacion town, 28-year-old Francis Anthony Quiapo was standing outside of his house when an unidentified person riding on a mountain bike shot him at around 8 p.m.
The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound on his neck, was rushed to the North General Hospital in Banilad.
In sitio San Roque, barangay Mambaling, 35-year-old Nolito Sevilla was riding a public utility jeepney when he was shot by one of six persons wearing black crash helmets and dark-colored jackets.
The victim who suffered gunshot wounds on his left index finger and right middle finger was taken to the CCMC.
Sevilla said he was onboard the said jeepney at around 8 p.m. from Colon Street when he noticed of motorcycle-riding men tailing the PUJ.
Upon reaching sitio San Roque, the motorcycle stopped in front of the PUJ. One of the suspects approached him and shot him three times but missed.
This prompted him to jump out of the vehicle and run as fast as he could towards his house which is only a stone’s throw away from where the shooting happened. But the gunman reportedly gave him a chase.
The gunman shot him again. This time, he played dead to drive away the suspects.
Police disclosed that Sevilla had been jailed three times already for illegal possession of firearm, slight physical injuries, and child abuse.
The fifth incident took place in sitio Arco, barangay Punta Princesa wherein 42-year-old Gaspar Cuyamen alleged that at around 9 p.m. last Tuesday, he was on his way to a store to buy cigarette when an unidentified assailant shot him many times.
Cuyamen sustained three gunshot wounds on his back and was rushed to the CCMC by his common-law wife, Marina Carmelo.
Police are still investigating the incident to determine the identity and motive of the suspect. — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/MEEV
