Korean police officials visit reg’l police office

Officials of the Police Provincial Agency of Chungnam, South Korea visited their counterparts at the Police Regional Office yesterday.

Regional police director Silverio Alarcio yesterday said the Chungnam police officials, led by General Chen Koang Hoa, visited Camp Sergio Osmeña to renew ties with their counterparts in the PRO.

Alarcio said the ties started with a memorandum of understanding signed between the Chungnam police and the PRO on September 6, 2005. The MOU also aims to ensure security of Filipinos in that Korean province as well as protection of visiting Koreans in Cebu.

During their recent meeting, the two police organizations have come up with an agreement that would establish a human right center for Filipinos in Chungnam province.

The PRO will also set up a liaison office to help foreigners, especially South Korean nationals, on security concerns.

The agreement stated that any misdemeanor created by Filipinos in Chungnam and by South Koreans in Central Visayas would be raised to the consular offices of the two countries for proper action.

Alarcio said in a few days, there would be an increase in cooperation between the two police organizations that will include joint training activities.

During their visit yesterday, the Korean police officials also brought with them a refrigerator to be given to a mother of a Cebuana who had married a Chungnam resident.

When the Chungnam police officials visited Cebu in 2005, they donated at least 20 computer sets to the PRO.

Alarcio learned that although Chungnam province only had a population of 350,000, it has at least 5,007 policemen, a figure the same as that of the PRO. – Flor Z. Perolina/LPM
