A 41-year-old farmer was shot by an unidentified assailant as he went out of his house in sitio Lamac, barangay Corte, Carmen town Saturday night.
Insp. Carlos Reyes Jr., the town's police chief, said Romulo Bayo, single, a resident of the place, was shot by an unidentified person with a .45 cal. pistol who was waiting for him below the ladder of his house.
The slug entered the left side of his waist and exited through the left side of his chest. He was rushed to the hospital but died along the way.
No one could identify the assailant since the place was dark and had no electricity.
Reyes said that the victim, who was celebrating his birthday that day, was known to be a good person and had no enemies in their place. But they received unconfirmed reports that the victim got into a heated argument with two neighbors a week before the incident happened after his goat was bitten by their dog.
After that he also had a heated argument with a backhoe operator working on a road construction in the said place after his land was affected by the said construction.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy was also shot by an unidentified assailant in sitio Tiber, barangay Poblacion Ward I, Minglanilla town, last Sunday dawn, while walking home with his friends.
Desk officer SPO1 Ricky Larrobis yesterday said that Rutchel Bollosos and eight of his friend just left the Minglanilla Sports Complex where a benefit dance was held when someone shot the victim before fleeing.
Larrobis said the incident may be fraternity- or gang-related since the assailant was about the same age as the suspect. - Norvie S. Misa/BRP
