A Malabuyoc councilor spent a few hours in jail for stabbing one of the men that blocked his car's way and engaged with him in a heated altercation at sitio Gawahon in barangay Poblacion II of the town Sunday night.
Councilor Charito Creus Sabac, 45, was driving his multi-cab with two companions on their way to a Christmas party in that place when a group of four allegedly drunken men were drinking right in the middle of the road.
An argument and a fight ensued resulting in the stabbing of Roger Salazar, 28, who suffered four stab wounds in his back, one each in his chest, face, and left arm. He was taken to the MJ Cuenco Memorial Hospital while Sabac surrendered to the town police.
Investigator SPO1 Ariel Mascardo said Sabac stopped his vehicle and alighted to ask the drinking men-Ramil Villaroel, Ian Toring, Silverio Allera, and a certain Aldo, all residents of the area-to give way to his car and drink by the roadside instead.
The four men got angry with Sabac instead resulting in a heated argument between them and the councilor. Soon after, Salazar suddenly arrived and punched the councilor on the face.
Sabac got a cut on his left eyebrow, prompting his brother, Carlos, a councilman of that barangay, to intervene and try to pacify the antagonists.
The councilor however managed to grab a bottle of liquor and struck it broken on the face of Salazar then used the broken bottle to stab the latter several times.
Mascardo yesterday said Sabac was released a few hours after detention after he got into an amicable settlement with Salazar.
Salazar reportedly was not interested to file a criminal complaint against Sabac, and so was the councilor against the former.
The police however advised Sabac to have his swollen eyebrow treated and medically checked for record purposes. - Norvie S. Misa
