The DLM is an alternative way for these children to have access to basic education through self-paced and independent learning materials that would make them competent in English, Science, Mathematics, and Filipino.
With the availability of the DLM, these poor children will be able to proceed to formal education without having to go to schools and attend classes. They will gain quality education comparable to their counterparts enrolled in regular schools.
They would study the modules for each subject area, and meet DLM coordinators for periodic discussions of the modules.
Evaluation of the children under DLM will be a continuous process to determine the children's ability and readiness to take finally the Philippine Education Placement Test.
The PEPT results will then determine his acceleration to a certain point of the educational ladder, which will grant them the opportunity for formal education later on.
The system of distance learning is flexible, allowing students to study the modules as often as they need for better comprehension of the subject. They can work on the modules at their own pace, although a time limit is set for every module.
