Rape suspect falls in Dumanjug Town

-
A 26-year-old man who is wanted for rape was arrested in barangay Liong, Dumanjug town Wednesday afternoon by combined operatives of the Talisay City Police Station and Dumanjug Police Station.

Reynaldo Deniega, a resident of the place, was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Oligario Sarmiento Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 24 based in Cebu City.

The Talisay City police led by SPO1 Glenn Burlas, in coordination with the Dumanjog police led by SPO1 Raymundo Sala and SPO1 Willer Sayson, nabbed Deniega at the house of his uncle in the area.

SPO1 Ciriaco Luab of the Dumanjug police told The Freeman that the suspect is now detained at the Talisay City jail

But Deniega told The Freeman in a telephone interview that the alleged victim was his former girlfriend and that their relationship lasted only a month since her relatives, particularly her grandmother, were against it as he was just their houseboy.

He said no rape occurred, only a consensual sex between him and the girl who, he claimed, went to his room one night in December 2005.

The alleged victim was 17 years old at the time of the incident,

Deniega added that he left his work as a houseboy in March to work at a woodcraft factory in Laray, Inayawan, Cebu City where he lived with a woman who is also a helper of his former employer.

The suspect said they went home in Dumanjug in July following a miscarriage suffered by his live-in partner, adding that it was his former girlfriend's grandmother who accused him of rape. - Norvie S. Misa/LPM
