Man shot for refusing to give firewood

-
For refusing to give his neighbor firewood for making charcoal Tuesday night, a 56-year-old man from Banawa, barangay Guadalupe ended up getting shot.

Rafael Saballa, married, a resident of the place was hit on his thigh when Albert Ebonalo, 40, also a resident of the place, shot him after they quarreled about firewood.

P/Insp. Eleazar Abrigana of the Guadalupe police responded to the area when informed about the incident.

The victim alleged that he was attending to their store when the suspect, who was reportedly drunk, arrived and asked for firewood so he could make charcoal. The victim, however, refused and a verbal tussle ensued between the two. The victim then punched the suspect once in the face and the suspect retaliated by shooting Saballa using a .357 caliber revolver.

Sergio Gemota, 36, and a certain "Mayo", who were playing a board game near the store, quickly disarmed Ebonalo and turned him over to the responding policemen, along with the gun and two live cal. 38 bullets.

Saballa was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while Ebonalo was taken to the Cebu City police stockade while waiting for charges to be filed against him. - Norvie S. Misa/QSB
