Mandaue execs question valuation of real property

Mandaue City officials opposed the BIR zonal valuation of the city's real properties contending that it is too expensive and unrealistic.

City vice mayor Amadeo Seno, Jr. said that BIR should look into the city's Land Use Map before coming up with a zonal valuation, which reportedly has a lot of discrepancies.

Majority floorleader Carlo Pontico Fortuna echoed the same concern and requested BIR officials who attended their regular session last Tuesday to come up with a zonal valuation that is fair, just and equitable.

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano himself registered his opposition on BIR's zonal valuation saying it is very high and will make Mandaue City unfriendly to investors adding that businessmen will no longer invest in the city if real property becomes very expensive.

In a letter to BIR Revenue District 80 officer Ramer Narvaez, Ouano expressed concern that Mandaue constituents would find it difficult to pay the required taxes based on the agency's valuation of real properties in the city.

Fortuna for his part has proposed for the creation of a technical working group tasked to come up with a realistic zonal valuation. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
