Lapu-Lapu to regulate private PUJ terminals

Lapu-Lapu City officials are contemplating regulating the establishment and operation of private terminals for public utility vehicles in the city.

Vice Mayor Norma Patalinghug and members of the city council have agreed to further study the recommendation of the City Traffic Management System Commission on this matter.

The CTMS said PUV terminals in the different barangays are proliferating and contributing to the traffic problem.

Aside from being in poor locations, the traffic body ticked off the undisciplined practices of drivers, dispatchers, and conductors.

Members of the commission believes there is a need for the council to come up with guidelines for the establishment and operation of terminals.

Under the proposed ordinance, it states that no privately-owned PUV terminals shall be allowed to operate within the city without first securing an accreditation certificate from the City Traffic Management System Commission.

The CTMSC accreditation shall show the location, area, and facilities of the terminal.

The Office of the Mayor shall issue a business and mayor's permit to a terminal accreditation applicant only after an accreditation certificate shall have been issued by the commission. - Jose P. Sollano
