Relaxation massage

Justine Therese Juntilla USJR-Masscom - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Everybody needs break after a whole week of work. Both laborers and office workers look forward to a time when to relax and idle the moments away. Sometimes the mere thought of coming home to the loving company of the family already gives some relief.

But while being the in the familiar environment of the home can be relaxing enough, it is so much better to be pampered with a massage that  loosens up the tense muscles and relieves the stressed mind. Some people long to go to a spa. Others just call in the neighborhood masseur.

Getting a massage has long been a practice in many societies. In the Philippines, the “hilot” even assumes a higher role as a healer. Well, actually, a massage is a healing therapy in the sense that it relieves both physical and mental stress.

There’s no question about the value of massage in alleviating worn body and spirit. But most people just know that a massage is good to have, without really knowing the actual benefits from the procedure. The website Your Wealth for Life lists some of the benefits of massage:

Eliminates anxiety and depression

Of course, a good massage gives one a lighter feeling afterwards. One feels better and less worried about certain things that bothered him or her so before the procedure.

Promotes physical flexibility and better posture

Cramped and tensed muscles are a common result of a lack of muscular movement. People experience these now and then, especially those that don’t do regular exercise and those whose daily routine cause physical tension to accumulate. The tension is released by massage, and the body feels like new afterwards.

Makes you sleep better

Since a massage relaxes the body, it also enables one to sleep more restfully, allowing the physical system to re-charge vital energies.

Better blood circulation

As the muscles relax from the massage, the veins loosen, too, and allow for better blood flow. Nutrients and oxygen get better distributed, nourishing the different organs throughout the body and, thus, result in better health.

Gets rid of toxins and fat from the muscles

Since massage promotes better blood circulation, toxins and other unnecessary elements – like fat – get efficiently collected and released, as well. Toxins and fat often get stuck in cramped muscles.

Lowers blood pressure

Again, when blood circulation is good, blood pressure remains at ideal levels. Oftentimes, the blood pressure of hypertensive comes down after a massage. Although a massage doesn’t have a long term effect in keeping the blood pressure in check, releasing tension from the body regularly through a massage can help in managing hypertension.

Among people who have no physical complaints, getting a massage is a welcome treat. It is reassuring as it makes one feel pampered
