"La Mien: A celebration of noodles" AT Shangri-La's Tea of Spring

CEBU, Philippines - From August 18 to 31, 2010, Tea  of Spring at Shangri-La’s

Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu offers guests a special Chinese culinary experience “La Mien: A Celebration of Noodles.” The highlight of the festival is a daily demonstration of noodle pulling at the alfresco dining area of Tea of Spring by Guest Chef Sun Yi Li, who will be serving a special selection of authentic Chinese noodle delicacies exclusively at Tea of Spring throughout the promotion.

La mien is a special type of hand-pulled Chinese noodles used as the main ingredient for a range of Chinese delicacies. The noodle-making process involves taking a lump of dough and repeatedly stretching it to produce many strands of thin, long noodles.

Chef Sun Yi Li is the pulled noodle chef of Golden Flower Hotel, Xian in China. Chef Li has been with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts for six years and is part of the kitchen team that runs the Coffee Garden of Gold Flower Hotel, Xian. Always with a smile to complement his prolific noodle-pulling skills, Chef Li enjoys being able to share the ancient Chinese art of noodle pulling while treating guests to his specialties.

The la mien menu includes classic dishes such as Noodles with Beef, a true slow-cooked treat made with hand-pulled noodles cooked in a special beef broth for at least four hours. Other specialties of Chef Sun include Noodles with Seafood, Noodles in Special Sweet Sauce, Noodles with Tomato and Egg and Noodle with Sliced Meat and Mushroom. Dishes in the special la mien menu start at P450++ per serving and are available for lunch and dinner. For inquiries about “La Mien: A Celebration of Noodles” and to make a reservation, please call Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu at (63 32) 2318224 or e-mail mac@shangri-la.com.
