Holiday Happenings

Prior to the start of the holiday season, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led in the lighting of the Provincial Capitol’s huge Christmas tree. Four days later, the pencil-slim Governor Gwen hosted dinner at the grounds of the Convention Center. Lasting for five days, the fair, interestingly had different products coming from all over the province, each municipality exhibiting their own products. Fresh vegetables from the mountains of Dalaguete were brought down too if only to prove that Mantalongon’s home-grown vegetables are a lot cheaper, of course, than those flown in from the capital city of Baguio. On that same evening, there was also a lighting of the majestic Christmas tree in front of the CICC.

Highlight of the evening’s event was the signing of the Sisterhood Agreement between the Province of Cebu by Governor Gwen F. Garcia and the Province of Antique by Governor Salvacion Perez in the presence of Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez, some members of the Cebu Provincial Board, Municipal Mayors like Mayor Duke Frasco of Liloan, Mayor Adelino Sitoy of Cordova, Mayor Geralyn Escaro of Bantayan and Mayor Cynthia Moreno of Aloguinsan, to name a few, as well as government officials from Antique, and other personalities from Cebu.

After the signing ceremony, Gov. Gwen then delivered a brief but a touching message, thus: “This is a historic and special night for all of us. Tonight, we formally forged a relationship that had been there all along.” Actually, through the centuries, the tie has been there and never broken, and it’s only now that we have to formalize the bend that keeps us together across the seas that connect us. Very impressive indeed!

With pleasant entertainment and the band playing good music, the guests and the visitors enjoyed every minute of the affair that evening!
