At all times, fashion is frequently used as a synonym for glamour, style and beauty. Yet, more often than not, these beautiful adjectives could lead fashion to be associated to nonsensical materialism. And this gives birth to Clothes for Life Foundation.
Founded 10 years ago by Madam Joy Bernaldes, Clothes for Life Foundation intended to put a deeper sense in the hyped scene of the fashion industry. It is composed primarily of fashion designers, stylist, model agents and fashion organizers and directors who work for fashion for a good cause. Imbued with its push to at least supersede the superficial typecasts of the fashion industry, Clothes for Life has continually served Cebu thru their various charitable programs.
And to further the foundation’s mission-vision, Clothes for Life inducted their newly elected officers at the Teatro Casino Filipino,Waterfront Cebu City Hotel last Thursday, September 4. The night was indeed celebrated with a foray of comical and musical presentations from its members. Bearing its theme, “One for Tomorrow,” the event highlighted the foundation’s mission to uphold professionalism and equal opportunities among its members and affiliates, to utilize and recognize new talents, and to constantly extend help to the less fortunate sectors.
Having duly elected as the new president of the foundation, famous fashion designer, Harley Ruedas, still felt reluctant in accepting the position that is apparently twined with challenges. Nonetheless, the meaningful advocacies of the foundation have continued to inspire him to carry on and accept any challenge that may come during his time as president. “Let us continue this worthwhile endeavor and preserve the mission and vision of Clothes for Life Foundation. Just share a piece of your heart and a piece of your time and everything is possible, I believe everything is possible if we are always united and one for tomorrow,” Ruedas said in his acceptance speech.
The event ended with an exhilarating fashion show of the ravishing bikini and unique collections of the various fashion designers of Cebu. The hall heated up as the sixteen candidates of Mr. Cebu 2008 strut their way into the aisle with their skimpy swim wear and unique designer’s collection. But apart from all the glints and glamour, Clothes for Life Foundation has remained to be a fashion institution with a sense of heart.
