‘Starstruck’ champ stars in international series

CEBU, Philippines - GMA Artist Center star Steven Silva is determined to showcase his knack for singing, dancing, acting and cooking in the upcoming series “The Boston” which will be aired this June.

“The audition experience for ‘The Boston’ was very nerve-wracking and long, but in the end, it was completely worth it. My first audition was conducted in GMA around September 2013 and after that followed numerous call-backs before I learned I was part of the final cast. It was a very thorough process and I could tell they really wanted to make sure that each character was to be filled by the right actor/actress,” Steven recalls his journey before he clinched the role of Sid, which was confirmed late last year. He is the only showbiz personality from the Philippines to be part of “The Boston” cast.

According to Steven, he will be portraying an interesting and intriguing character in the series. “The character I play in ‘The Boston’ is named Sid and he is the pastry chef in the restaurant. He is interesting in the sense that he is one of the more skillful chefs in the kitchen, yet he is very soft spoken and doesn’t necessarily take command even though he is more than qualified to do so. He is also very particular to his sense of style and physical upkeep and appearance. In a sense, he is very metro sexual and sometimes even borders on homosexual by his attitude, tendencies and tone of voice, yet no one really knows the truth.”

Many people didn’t know that Steven earned a degree in Culinary Arts, which helped him land the part of Sid. “One of my assets that helped me and also allowed me to help my fellow cast during our shoot was my culinary background. I did my best whenever there were questions regarding kitchen etiquette, practices, or just anything to help make our show give a high sense of realism, especially in the kitchen and during cooking sequences. I hold a degree in Culinary Arts from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, which I completed in 2010, before I came to the Philippines and joined StarStruck in GMA.”

As Steven adds another feather in his cap, he can’t help but say, “I’m thankful to God for all the blessings that I’ve been receiving.”

Steven is also part of GMA Network’s musical variety program “Sunday All Stars.” (FREEMAN)
