CEBU, Philippines - GMA News and Public Affairs dominated the 7th Annual COMGUILD Awards last Saturday after taking home the bulk of the event’s major citations on top of its second Hall of Fame Award.
Multi-awarded broadcast journalist Jiggy Manicad joins the exclusive company of first ever COMGUILD Hall of Famer Mel Tiangco (Most Outstanding Female News Presenter) after winning the Best Male Field Reporter award for three years (2008, 2009, and 2011).
Manicad is host to several GMA News and Public Affairs programs including 24 Oras Weekend, Reporter’s Notebook, and GMA News TV’s Quick Response Team.
“Receiving the Hall of Fame award is a humbling experience for me. Nakakataba ng puso na maraming kabataan na nakakakita sa trabaho namin bilang mga mamamahayag . At ang maganda doon, nakapagsilbi ka rin sa publiko . Para sa akin , isa rin siyang malaking biyaya,” Manicad says of his recent win.
Meanwhile GMA Network’s flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras was cited as Best News Program for the second year in a row.
GMA VP for News Programs Jessica Soho, who is widely regarded as the most awarded broadcast journalist in the country today, was given the Most Outstanding Female News Presenter award for her nightly newscast on GMA News TV, State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.
Award-winning broadcast journalist Kara David was cited as Best Female Field Reporter of the Year. David is one of the anchors of GMA News TV’s early weekday newscast News To Go and is also one of the hosts of GMA 7’s award-winning documentary program I-Witness.
First ever COMGUILD Hall of Fame honoree Tiangco, in turn, was named as this year’s Best Entertainment Host for her weekly lifestyle program on GMA News TV, Powerhouse.
Organized by the COMGUILD Center for Journalism, the annual COMGUILD Award aims to recognize the exemplary work of local broadcasters and news presenters. This year’s panel of judges is composed of reputable deans and educators from 80 journalism schools and universities nationwide.
