Highlands adventure with Escargot in I-Witness

CEBU, Philippines - Tonight, Howie Severino and his I-Witness team return to one of the most postcard-pretty villages in the Philippines —Batad in the highlands of Ifugao—all for a dog named Escargot.

Escargot is known for guiding tourists as they hike through the village’s rice terraces shaped like an amphitheater. But when the documentarians arrive, many of the homes were empty—the entire community was at a wake and the visitors were invited to witness a violent death ritual.

When the lowlanders finally take a hike with Escargot, they learn of Batad’s looming problem that could soon rob them of their status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Escargot himself disappears before Howie's journey is over. An unexpected companion takes his place and accompanies them to one of Batad's hidden natural treasures.
