John Lloyd-Toni teamup: A blockbuster in the making?

John Lloyd Cruz didn’t have a hard time working with Toni Gonzaga, his partner in the upcoming Star Cinema movie “My Amnesia Girl.” This is their first teamup and the film is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina who directed the three blockbuster films of John Lloyd that made him a three-time box-office king.

John Lloyd said that the film is a mature love story even if it’s a comedy. They are playing mature roles in the film and its story is way above the first love and first kiss syndrome.

For her part, Toni said she can’t help but feel the excitement every time she sets foot on the set of “My Amnesia Girl.” “I know John Lloyd is a very good actor and I look forward to every shooting day because it’s such an inspiration to work with him since he’s very generous actor. Mapagbigay siya bilang actor. Hindi ka niya bibitawan sa eksena kaya naman lahat ng nakaktrabaho niya ang gagaling kasi he knows how to bring out the best in you,” said Toni at the presscon of the film that is set for theatrical release on Nov. 24.

When asked if it’s true that he stole a kiss from Toni, John Lloyd said he won’t do such a thing. Even direk Cathy came into the actor’s defense, saying that John Lloyd is such a gentleman and is not the type who’d take advantage of his leading lady.

When asked why Toni agreed to do a kissing scene with the actor, when in her previous movies she only agreed to a smack if none at all, she said, “It’s about time. Saka kailangan naman sa eksena. Isa pa, malaki ang tiwala ko kay Direk Cathy. Yung pagmamahal ko sa kanya ay sobra-sobra. Kaya kung ano ang hihingin sa akin ay ibibigay ko,” she said.

Even through her Facebook account, Ms. Ai Ai de las Alas is requesting the public to watch her concert titled “Akin Ang Tronong Ito” to be held tonight at the Araneta Coliseum. Show starts at 8 pm.

“I hope my fans would watch my concerts. Sana pati ang fans ng mga guests ko ay manood din,” posted Ms. Ai Ai on her Facebook account. Among her guests is no less than the Megastar Sharon Cuneta.

For sure, this is going to be another riot concert for the Comedy Concert Queen, just like her past major concerts that had packed the Big Dome. While Ai Ai may not be a singer, she can definitely carry a tune, compared to other singer wannabes whom we’d rather not listen to.

And once she comes onstage, expect a high performance level from start to finish. At times, some portions of Ai Ai’s concerts border on the naughty, if not risqué, prompting some people in the audience to react negatively. But majority of those who watch Ai Ai’s concerts are fully aware of the kind of concerts she has. Yes, it’s risqué at times but very entertaining none the less. That’s why people come and watch her—to be entertained by Ai Ai’s unique brand of comedy that only the Comedy Concert Queen can dish off. Watch at your own risk! And leave your children at home!

Ai Ai has never failed to entertain us each time we watch her concerts. We’ve seen all of her major shows and she never ceases to come up with surprises. For sure, she’s coming up with another one tonight at the Big Dome. Good luck, Ai Ai!

The movies are novelty. The stories are unpredictable. The talents are a mix of flag bearers and an emerging new breed. These are what make the 6th Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival a highly anticipated event when it opened at the Shang Cineplex of Edsa Shangri-La Plaza mall on Nov. 10 and ran until Nov. 16. Its equally awaited awards night was held on Nov. 14 at the Dolphy Theater of the ABS-CBN.

Spearheaded by the country’s no. 1 movie cable channel Cinema One, and helmed by its Director for Programming Ronald Arguelles, this year’s festival formed part of the ongoing 16 Year Anniversary of Cinema One’s leadership in local cinema. The festival also awarded its Cinema One Original Tribute to two filmmakers who are pillars in local cinema: Celso Ad Castillo and Lav Diaz. This award and tribute was first given to director Danny Zialcita and Dante Mendoza.
