Artificial Intelligence – what will it do to us in 2024?

INTEGRITY BEAT - Henry Schumacher - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Artificial Intelligence (AI) will take an oversized role in enterprise tech strategies in 2024.

It therefore makes sense to look at coming AI developments:

Let’s start with the views expressed by Bill Gates in an interview the other day:

It is not for nothing that Bill Gates is considered a great visionary and optimist. In that interview, the entrepreneur and multi-billionaire lives up to this reputation. Gates paints a picture of a future in which artificial intelligence (AI) could take over education and healthcare. “Then children in Africa can learn mathematics with the help of an AI tutor or pregnant women can receive sensible health advice around the clock,” enthuses Gates.

But he also admits that no one has yet fully understood exactly how AI works: “It’s strange, we know the algorithm, but we don’t really know how it works.” Here too, the 67-year-old is confident: “In the next decade, we will have a very clear understanding of what is going on in AI.”

Can AI be used to develop superintelligence that would be far superior to humans? Unfortunately, Gates doesn’t want to commit to this question. You want to comment????

Next, let’s look at top strategic technology trends seen by others for 2024:

Generative AI to spread across the organization

Next year, it is expected that generative AI will continue its spread across the organizations, as the barrier of entry to the technology continues to dissolve and vendors embed it across solutions.

Large language models will serve as a key driver of adoption, as they allow workers to access knowledge in a conversational style.

AI and security management

IT leaders will need to erect AI security and privacy guardrails as adoption expands throughout the enterprise.

Without guardrails, AI models can rapidly generate compounding negative effects that spin out of control, overshadowing any positive performance and societal gains that AI enables.

AI-augmented development

Vendors spent much of 2023 plugging AI-assisted technologies into their platforms, creating wholly new features, or enhancing best-sellers. Software engineering, a critical process for any tech-driven business, stands to benefit from AI’s efficiency.

The ownership revolution

As part of the ongoing vendor push to infuse AI into services, more applications will become intelligent applications — apps able to respond appropriately and autonomously thanks to learned adaptation. The trend towards data ownership gains momentum.

Connected Workforce

The talent crunch is likely to persist into 2024 across a variety of roles. To boost the value each employee can provide, it is expected that technology leaders will enable an approach they call the augmented-connected workforce.

This strategy relies on intelligent applications and workforce analytics to offer workers context and guidance.

Protecting your Web world

Guarding against cybersecurity attacks will continue to consume resources next year. Businesses will have to focus on continuous threat exposure management.

Machine customers

AI will boost the speed and efficiency of organizations next year and, in the process, it will also become a considerable economic actor.

As algorithms gain the ability to assess and execute purchases for organizations and individuals, the rise of the machine customer is expected to expand business considerably in the years to come.

Move towards sustainable technologies

Increased global interest in environmental, social and governance issues will put business decisions under greater scrutiny, especially amid the expectation of sharper government oversight.

The trend will impact tech decisions, drawing more attention to the sustainability indicators associated with energy-heavy technologies, including AI and cloud computing.

Platform engineering towards business expansion.

Technology leaders are expected to lean into platform engineering next year, the discipline of running self-service internal development platforms. This category of technology can enhance productivity, improve user experience, and accelerate the attainment of business value.

In conclusion, whether we like AI or not, we have no option but to introduce AI in our operations. If we don’t, our competitors will threaten our business and our technical staff will join our competitors. I wish you luck in addressing the AI-guided technology changes in 2024.
