CEBU, Philippines - A Luzon-based family business has decided to share its food specialties, which are creations of the family’s ancestors, to the Cebuanos with the hope that it can capture the native’s “knack for good food.”
“We believe that Cebuanos love good food. We are bringing in very good food. I will not say that our halo-halo is the best. But we encourage everyone to try and judge for themselves,” Allan Razon-Garcia, proprietor of Razon’s Special Halo-Halo and Palabok.
Aside from palabok and halo-halo, Pampanga-based Razon’s also serve sisig, dinuguan, adobong ballot and boneless Buluan bangus.
Garcia told The Freeman that the fourth generation of the Razon ancestry is very proud of the specialties of their grandmothers that they decided in 2002 to expand the family business, which started as a conservative business in 1972.
“We were lucky that one of our grandmothers, the sister of my grandmother, was still alive to teach us their trade secrets. Our halo-halo was chosen by Mall of Asia as one of the 24 best desserts in the mall. It is the only halo-halo among the cakes chosen,” he said.
Razon’s, which originated in Pampanga has over 70 branches in Luzon.
Garcia said the company plans to open one more branch in Cebu in November, if it is able to observe a positive response from the Cebuano market.
Razon’s Special Halo-Halo and Palabok of Pampanga-Cebu branch is located on an 80-square meter area in the Windows of Cebu, across SM City Cebu and Sun Gold Marketing, North Reclamation area.
Garcia said the store is bringing the prices of its food products lower than in Manila to allow more Cebuanos, from all walks of life, to taste what they have to offer. (Jessica B. Natad)
