The complaints raised by motorists last week about the problem at Gen. Maxilom and Juana Osmeña got several replies.
One of our regular correspondents, who goes by the pseudonym 123 Bisdak Kunuhay, has this to say about it:
Dear Nimrod,
I very much agree with one of the complaints that you received regarding the traffic abuses of vehicles that block the Gen. Maxilom Avenue & Juana Osmeña St. specifically the area from the corner of the Don Ramon Aboitiz Street turning down to the opposite corner of Gen. Maxilom Ave. where the old Rustan’s was originally located.
I remember not so long ago, the original complaint was because of pimps that lined-up in this whole stretch of Juana Osmeña. Due to the complaints of the residents along that area, our city addressed this problem. Now, it’s the taxis and the private cars that park on both sides of the road. Sometimes, we all can say, “so what else is new?” This is just like the case of the “Habal-habal” ribboncles that have proliferated so many areas of Cebu.
Let us all forget about Citom. Let us all forget about our City Council. These are people that are only good for socials & ribbon cutting ceremonies. They’re not good for anything else. Let’s forget about the fact that they’re only good at arguing at each other for new laws and other things. What matters so much is our city’s a “real mess” and they’ve already went through so many terms in their political careers and nothing has ever happened to this very date. Plus the fact that all of them have “flip-flop” personalities that can change their decisions with the flick of a finger especially if they’re projects & opportunities are put on hostage…
With regards to Citom, all I can say is, “it had its glory days but that’s completely gone already…”

We understand the sentiment about many well-meaning Cebuanos on the competence of the CITOM these days considering how many motorists seem to have lost their respect for the city’s traffic bureau.
If you happen to pass Gorordo Ave., you can get caught in the middle of the intersection at that junction where it meets Arch. Reyes Ave. and F. Sotto because of the jeepney drivers that wait for passengers in the NO STOPPING area for the Lahug-bound lane.
We’re sure that the CITOM knows about this situation, but what has the traffic body done?
Some readers have told us to just shut up and quit complaining because nothing is happening. If we do that, then we’d end up just like those who told us to keep quiet, “willing victims of abuse.”
To our readers who have also encouraged us to continue, we thank you for your trust and hope that there would be more people airing their complaints so we can have a bigger voice.
Our only desire is for us to have a better place to live in.
