Now that 3G UMTS has become an everyday technology, exciting new opportunities on the horizon are influencing the next generation of mobile communications. Samsung is prepared and ready for tomorrow. While the vision for the mobile world of the future is still evolving, the shape of what is coming is clear.
As a global telecommunications leader committed to developing technologies that serve as the most advanced personal multimedia devices on the market, Samsung is proud to showcase High Speed Data Packet Access or HSDPA as the future of mobile broadband.
A new form of mobile broadband, HSDPA is capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to seven times faster than that of WCDMA. Users can enjoy large-scale multimedia downloads, such as DVD-quality movies and interactive multimedia games, with high-speed wireless Internet access comparable to speeds of fixed-line ADSL services.
At Samsung, new services and mobile experiences are being brought to life as HSDPA and other breakthrough technologies are harnessed for the market. Samsung remains at the center of that experience.
In the past, Samsung has achieved the worlds first and the worlds best in several arenas, including digital mobile imaging, the mobile multimedia experience, all-in-one music maestros with vast memory capabilities, 3G streaming for digital mobile content, and more.
Looking forward to 2006 and beyond, Samsung vows to continue its quest to be the worlds first and the worlds best at everything.
Proving this technology leadership was the launch of the HSDPA handset SGH-Z560. As a market innovator, Samsung introduced the worlds first HSDPA phone SGH-ZV50 in France and Italy during the first half of the year.
In the Philippines, Samsung will be the first to bring Z560 commercially. With the launch of the slim HSDPA phone, it will continue to deliver new HSDPA models in various styles and features in the next few months.
HSDPA, also known as 3.5G, is a new mobile telephony protocol that represents the future of mobile broadband, providing faster download speeds than current 3G systems at lower costs.
The SGH-Z560 was successfully demonstrated as having the worlds fastest HSDPA technology, at 3.6 Mbps, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain, and CeBIT in Hannover, Germany this year. At that speed, downloading a 4MB mp3 file would take less than 10 seconds!
The latest Z560 supports 1.8 Mbps data throughput and comes in a very slim design. With a depth of a mere 16 mm, the handset includes advanced features such as a two-megapixel camera with autofocus, external touch music keys, 30 MB of internal memory and microSD external memory slot.
The Z560 is slim yet has a wide display for the convenient use of multimedia functions at a very high speed. It uses a 2.3" QVGA 262K LCD to ensure clear and sharp screen images.
Spencer Shim, president of Samsung Electronics Phils. Corp., said, "Samsungs newest HSDPA phone has state-of-the-art technology with great style. We are happy to lead the HSDPA phone market and we will bring incredible innovations based on our newest 3.5G technology to mobile users. We did not introduce 3G here but we made a milestone by being the first to introduce 3.5G technology, faster and better."
