Authorities are preparing staggered pump price increases after global crude surged, with estimates suggesting potential hikes of about P19/l for diesel, P9/l for gasoline, and P31/l for kerosene. Government is also preparing roughly P3.5 billion in transport subsidies.

In our view, the scale of the projected increase suggests a meaningful short-term inflation impulse. Transport and logistics costs adjust quickly to fuel changes, which can gradually feed into food distribution and services, particularly if diesel prices approach recent peak levels.
Catalyst
The key variable remains crude oil direction amid Middle East tensions. A sustained 10% increase in Brent typically adds roughly 0.20-0.25pp to domestic inflation in our estimates, while higher diesel prices could trigger fare adjustment requests.
Action
Position defensively given the potential cost shock from higher fuel prices. Transport operators, airlines, and logistics names appear most exposed to margin pressure if diesel prices rise sharply. Consumer discretionary could also soften should fuel-driven inflation weigh on household spending.
